DOWNLOAD: A pre-final version of HORIZONLESS recolours of Psychosims Neighbourhood Sky
2nd-Aug-2011 11:02 pm

First things first; if you have my previous sky recolours in your game and haven’t seen this yet: Please Redownload! I fixed a couple of things.

I also fixed this other thing, but it was big enough to get an entire post of its own!

These files are the same skies as in the first download post, but they don’t have the added horizons. Otherwise the texture is unchanged, except for moving it all down a tad and making sure it still looks okay on the bottom.

The globe now looks like this when you place it. I haven’t seen what it looks like with a water edge (my graphics are crappy on this netbook, can you tell) but it does seem like this would work a lot better! Hopefully this version will be a lot more versatile, at least until I can add more horizon-y things.

Please refer to the first download post for more information on the sky globes in general. A quick summary:
  • It shows up in the landmark directory

  • These files are all stand-alone objects; you do not need Psychosims object, you don’t need my previous ones. You can select the ones you like and they all show up separately in the catalogue.

  • Placement is done with the little blue grabbable square.

  • Height adjustment is possible with modifyneighborhoodterrain on if you have AL or MG. (adjust the terrain square of the grabbable object).

  • These are also not compressorized!

Other than that, again a big thank you to Psychosim, Chris997, Danicast, Blender Architecture, and Nepheris! (Although the bad graphics in this post are mine, not hers!)

And now for the extra’s!
As first seen in this post, you will also get this recolour in both the horizontastic and the horizonless variety. The horizon is the same as those on the previous “pre-final” recolours.

The same goes for this recolour. I’ve used this texture before to test, although I can’t find that I shared the photos. It’s rather dramatic, especially with reflecting water!

Credit for these two textures goes to Blender Architecture.

Sorry for taking so long!
Please enjoy! Feedback is welcome!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. These are freaking awesome, and I've loved having them in my game! I'm really excited to test out the horizonless version; I think it'll look better on bigger neighborhoods. Good on you for making such a great deco! :D
3rd-Aug-2011 10:04 am (UTC)
Aww thank you! I'm really glad you enjoy them :D The horizonless version was really quite necessary as it's so much more versatile, so I'm glad I finally got them out.
I love your icon, by the way, and I hope you won't mind if I friend you back :)
4th-Aug-2011 12:35 am (UTC)
Oh, I totally don't mind! :D I tested the no-horizon versions in my game and they're amazing. The flaming sun recolor is great too! Now I've gotta take some neighborhood pictures! ;D
4th-Aug-2011 05:39 am (UTC)
Oh cool! Happy to hear that. Glad you like the flaming sun too, it can be a bit over the top sometimes :D I hope you will be sharing the pictures you take! I love seeing neighbourhood photos :)

These are gorgeous, even the ones from before. I've never used a sky cover before, but I'll try this out soon! Will I still see these when im playing a lot (not neighborhood view)?
3rd-Aug-2011 10:09 am (UTC)
Thank you! :D I hope you will enjoy them in-game. If you haven't yet, read also Psychosims original post for a better explanation of how to place the globe :)
It's not as Sims-like cartoony as the default sky, but it sure does make for some pretty 'hood views! And it sets the mood :)
Hope you didn't mind me friending you back last night :D

I intended to but completely forgot to answer your question, sorry! Unfortunately they're not visible from lot view, it's too gigantic for that :)
Psychosim mentions that you can just use Chris997's lot atmosphere, or its recolour by Danicast, inside a lot. I (or CuriousB) do want to make similar recolours for the lot atmosphere as well, but the lot atmosphere has special functions and I'm actually kind of waiting/hoping for CuriousB to make it recolourable like any other object...
The existing textures on the lot atmosphere do make a huge difference as well, though, and I used some of them too for these NH skies, so you can still have some matching if you like :D
3rd-Aug-2011 05:59 pm (UTC)
Thanks for all the info! Would love to see these for lot atmosphere too :D
4th-Aug-2011 05:53 am (UTC)
You're welcome! ^_^
The original lot atmosphere has twelve texture "slots" (one for each month) and the same mapping, so it would not be hard to whip up a quick version... As if I didn't have enough to do ^^

Awesome! :D I'm so glad you're finding time to Sim and create again ^^ Thanks a bunch for these, definitely using them :)

Oh, summer holidays are such a relief! My sleep schedule has slipped a bit, but it doesn't matter, because I don't have to worry about school! ...except for all those forms I still have to send back to the university ^_^
I'm getting a lot of inspiration from catching up on Chickadeelee's and your old BACC posts, as well :)

I hope you enjoy these as well! And you know how much I love your neighbourhood pictures... *hint, hint* ;)

These are still so beautiful, and I believe they will fit hoods with water at the edge better. I like the extras as well, especially clear beams - yes, sometimes the sky is like that, more colourful and gorgeous than we would dare imagine.

If transferring the textures has not yet been done, I'd gladly do it. I would welcome some advice on how to transform the textures from your 1024x1024 textures to the smaller textures in the C7 object. I'm asking because the proportion of the sky part in the original texture is different.

I hadn't seen these until just now. They look great! I adore the other set and I'm definitely going to play around with my hood and see which of the two looks best. Thanks!

Thank you for your lovely comment! I am indeed glad you like them. ^_^

I think the horizons can add a little extra, but it has to look just right to be believable... Horizonless versions will be much more versatile and I'm still not entirely happy with the horizon texture. If you think of anything that might improve it, I would be most obliged!

Oh yay, more skies to choose from! Thank you so much for sharing, these are absolutely amazing ^_^
26th-Aug-2011 01:08 pm (UTC)
I am really glad you like them :D Enjoy them in your own game! Thanks for the lovely comment ^_^

Thank you so much Nimi <3

Yay, very glad you like! Thanks for commenting, too :D I've added you back!

I think we haven't met on this wild internet before, but nevertheless, I felt I need to thank you for these wonderful objects. They will definitely add the character I was missing to those neighbourhoods which I'd prefer to have a lighter mood than psychosim's original object offers. So thank you very much!

Hello :)

Indeed I don't believe we have; but I have seen your internet presence around, particularly on GoS where you post beautiful pictures, and I am flattered by your compliment! I made the recolours for exactly the reason you mentioned and I am very glad that you like them. Thank you for commenting!
3rd-Dec-2011 09:39 am (UTC)
The feeling is mutual, as I am also very flattered. Thank you. :)

I've tried the skies out in-game and must admit they give a small island neighbourhood of mine exactly the right character. I am very grateful to you!

I'm finally downloading these! Thanks for your hard work Nimi and I can't wait to try them! ♥
9th-Feb-2013 03:30 pm (UTC) - like!!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL WORK! Are there versions for individual lots?
18th-Nov-2013 03:11 pm (UTC) - help*
Hi! I hope you still see this because I just installed my game and I'm about to see if all the stuff I downloaded is going to work or fail. LOL.

Anyway these look great! I'm nervous about using them. But the sky you made is for both neighborhoods and lots right? I hope that doesn't sound silly.
20th-Nov-2013 08:21 am (UTC) - Re: help*
Hey! I'm not around much, but luckily I got a notification e-mail! :) I hope your game and downloads work!

This sky is for neighbourhoods (it's a decoration and you place it with a teal tile in the corner using a camera mod, as in the third image) but a lot version has been made from these textures by Slig here.
21st-Mar-2014 10:55 am (UTC) - Mixed Clouds
Your work is so awesome Nimi! I was wondering if you could make 'Mixed Clouds' WITHOUT a horizon? Pretty please! :D
