Walkin' down this rocky road
Wondering where my life is leadin'
Rollin' on to the bitter end
Finding out along the way
What it takes to keep love living
You should know how it feels, my friend

*blows dust off of Livejournal blog*

I'm here to serve you some new skies for your neighbourhood! Although I have posted on tumblr for the last years, this deserves a proper and long download post. With lots of pictures, most of which I posted to tumblr in my excitement yesterday and today.

Last week someone asked me on tumblr whether I'd make any new skies... and then Bluerubberbear offered me some textures they had used on the lot sky object, which looked wonderful, so of course I had to put them on the neighbourhood globe!

Bluerubberbear's lot version on Javiera's mesh can be downloaded here -- the mapping is different but it uses the same textures.

I stretched the textures so that they would fold exactly round the half-globe, which made for realistic and almost tangible sky domes.

This set includes several skies with stormy, overcast or cloudy moods. Here the illusion of actual clouds rolling over the land is particularly strong! The sky is marvellously present when you move the camera around.

Look! Mammatus clouds!

When using this one on terrains with low horizons, it can get really intense! (water reflects this one wonderfully and the horizon then just blends into the black.)

When you look upwards however, sometimes the clouds will break.

That's the top of the dome where the texture meets itself!

Seriously, I hope so bad that you will be using a good camera mod with these, and that you go out and explore in camera man mode.

(I’m using an edit of Gunmod’s here.)

~ so here's what I do with the camera ::

It's a bit of a trick where you zoom out, sit on a hill at the edge of the map, tilt the mouse wheel to get as low an angle as you can get (I think I edited this value in the camera mod to be able to go lower), and carefully zoom in a little again. Sometimes I like to shift into cameraman mode (TAB) and either hit Q to go lower (use E to go up) and tilt towards the sky with my mouse. For landscape pictures it's also useful to hit the minus key (-), which works a little different from normal zoom but instead gives you the effect of a more curved lens, for a wider scope.

So, have some more pictures of clouds.

I had unstretched versions of all of these before I stretched them out, and everywhere the stretched version won out -- but not here, in the texture I called Radiant Dusk. They both have their charm, so I'm including both options.

(The left is unstretched "Radiant Dusk Low", right is stretched "Radiant Dusk High".)

Okay! Things you NEED TO KNOW before we go on to the download. I'm putting this here and not in between the pictures in the hope that more people actually read them this way. ^_^

~ The objects show up in the "landmark" directory in the decoration catalogue in the neighbourhood view.
~ You do not need any mesh (this is a cloned object) but you do need at least one EP.
~ You place the object by placing a little grabbable square on one of the corners of your terrain and rotating the globe with > and < to wrap it around the terrain square. See also Psychosims post.
~ The level of the horizon is adjustable! Be careful in which corner you place the grabbable square!
As it depends on the height of the terrain where you placed the grabbable square, you can edit that if you have AL or MG installed. By enabling the modifyneighborhoodterrain cheat, you can select the terrain square that the grabbable object is on, and move it up and down with [ and ]. I think you get the best effect if the square is about water level, or lower.
~ These files are compressorized, yay!
~ The file names contain only letters, numbers, _ and - so they will not slow down your loading time unnecessarily.

~ They are not visible from a lot, as the object is too gigantic! Use Bluerubberbear's lot version inside a lot.
~ In fact, it's so huge that parts of it may disappear if the "free"camera is positioned too far from the centre, so watch out when taking pictures.

Thanks this time go to:
~ Psychosim, for creating the neighbourhood object which I cloned
~ Chris997, for creating the original lot atmosphere (which Psychosim enlarged)
~ Marlin Studios for the marvellous panoramic textures
~ Luxurylives on tumblr for asking about more neighbourhood skies which got this ball rolling
~ Bluerubberbear on tumblr for supplying the textures
~ Lovely simmers on tumblr and the Sims chat (you know who you are) who shared in my enthusiasm while making this

Please also see the posts on my previous skies (with & without horizons) for more information and other sky recolours.

Feedback is very welcome and so are additional HD panoramic textures if you happen to have a suggestion! I really hope you enjoy this and it would make me happy to see them in your pictures so please let me know :)

Swatch is included:

Now I'm on my feet again
Better things are bound to happen
All my dues surely must be paid
Many miles and many tears
Times were hard but now they're changing
You should know that I'm not afraid

Ooh, I want you to stay
Ooh, I want you today

I'm ready for love

Oh nimi, it's gorgeous! I love how the dark clouds roll over the hills. It looks amazing.

Thanks so much for sharing these! Can't wait to try them out in game!

Thanks Keoni! They really do roll, don't they? I love that about these textures. :) Can't wait to see how they look in your 'hoods!

Hi Mimi :) ! I just found you on tumblr today! Your work is amazing and your hood too!

I downloadet the Neighbourhood Sky and the Bluerubberbear's lot version , but the lot version is very dark in my opinion even at daylight.. how can I change this? xo

Hey Yaroslav, nice to meet you and thanks for your compliment! :)

I am not using Bluerubberbear's lot version myself at the moment, although I can take a look if you want to. Also I had nothing to do with that object, it only uses textures from the same source ;)
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head without any further context is that perhaps you placed the "grabber" object indoors? That dome thing does need to be outdoors (hidden under a bush or something) for it to be lit properly. Sorry I can't be of any more help!

Oh I really placed it indoors oh no *face palm* thank you! I just placed it outdoors and it looks flawless now :)
Have a Nice day :D
